MERRILL (WAOW) -- Merrill rescue workers had to carry a woman half a mile to an ambulance after she reportedly broke her leg in the woods.
It happened just before 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, rescue workers were called to a remote area north of Grandfather Hydro Dam, west of State Highway 107 across the Wisconsin River. Dispatchers received word of a "female patient who had broken her leg back in the woods."
Rescue workers arrived on scene and discovered the woman was located three quarters of a mile into the woods. After finding her, they used a new water rescue unit to transport her across the river.
After that, rescue workers had to carry the woman a half-mile to the ambulance due to rugged terrain.
The woman was taken to Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill. No one else was hurt.
