Some residents not on board with Price co. airport expansion

Posted:

PHILLIPS (WAOW) -- A project to expand the Price County Airport is in its early stages, but some people who live nearby said they're not on board.

Airport leaders said they want to add 220 feet to this runway, along with other changes, but they said that means trees that block the view of pilots will have to be cut down or trimmed. That's not sitting well with some landowners nearby. The airport manager maintains the project will increase safety.

"All of the project that we are pursuing at this time has to do with all safety. Parallel taxi ways is a safety issue, and the intersection is a safety issue, so we're just trying to provide a better platform for aircrafts to operate," said Airport Manager Chris Hallstrand.

Some people oppose the expansion calling it unnecessary, and a threat to their property values. The airport manager said homeowners will be compensated.

Officials said if the project continues as planned, it will be completed at the end of next summer.
