Ryan tapped to head GOP fundraising effort

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Janesville will be spearheading the GOP's fundraising effort to win back the presidency.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Friday that Ryan will serve as chairman of the RNC Presidential Trust.

Priebus is a close friend of Ryan's and the former Wisconsin Republican Party chairman. He says the Presidential Trust will raise money and act as a partner with the party's presidential nominee.

Ryan says in a statement that raising the money necessary to win the presidential election will be the difference maker. Ryan was rumored to be a possible candidate for the presidency, but he says he has no intention of running. He is chairman of the House Budget Committee.
