Irma R. Zipperer, 68, Mattoon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2011 under the care of her family and LeRoyer Hospice, Antigo, at her home.
She was born on December 28, 1942 in the township of Norwood, the daughter of the late Willard and Germaine (Menting) Franzen. Irma was united in marriage to Francis Zipperer on July 7, 1962 in Phlox. The couple later divorced.
Irma owned and operated a restaurant in Mattoon and also farmed for many years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making Christmas wreaths, playing cards and the occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include seven children, Bonnie (Duane) Leonard, Antigo, Mark (Sharon) Zipperer, Merrill, Ken (Amy) Zipperer, Wausau, Connie (Raymond) Warpehoski, Birnamwood, Vicki (Ron) Schroepfer, Bonduel, Karen (Kevin) Marten, Mattoon and Michele (Brian) DeLaPena, Hatley; 11 Grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Wilmont, Elkhardt Lake, Evelyn (Al) Horzewski, Brillion, Mel (Laurie) Franzen, Antigo, Dolores "Dottie" Malitz, Shawano, Don (Sue) Franzen, Townsend and Dave (Lynn) Franzen, Stevens Point. In addition to her former husband and parents, Irma was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha; one brother, Jay Franzen, two sisters, Ruth Leonard and Florence Fuller and a son-in-law, Roy Rustick.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church, Phlox. The Rev. Jeremiah Worman and Deacon Thomas Hartman will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Phlox. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood and again on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of Mass at the Church. There will be a Parish Wake service at 7PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
