Home video shows suspected tornado in Virginia

CHARLES CITY COUNTY, VIRGINIA (WAOW)--Check out this dramatic video of a suspected tornado in Virginia.

Researchers with the National Weather Service suspects that there were at least two tornado touchdowns in New Kent County and Louisa County, Virginia.
A witness shot home video of one suspected tornado.

Authorities report that about a dozen homes and the roof of an elementary school were damaged when the suspected tornado tore through a 6-mile portion of the county.

Weather Service teams are expected to survey the damage Friday.

LOUISA, Va. (AP) -- A suspected tornado has torn the roof off a centuries-old plantation house in the Virginia county that was the epicenter of an earthquake in August.

Louisa County spokeswoman Amanda Reidelbach says the damage occurred Thursday afternoon at Sylvania in the town of Louisa, a house that dates to 1746.

Reidelback says the home's roof was completed blown off and columns were toppled. She says there have been no reports of injuries.

The funnel cloud was reported in the northwest area of the county about 3:45 p.m.

More than 40 aftershocks have hit the county since the August earthquake, which shook buildings in Washington and New York. The quake's epicenter was in the town of Mineral, only about 6 miles away from the town of Louisa.
