Arlene (Altenburg) Hickey
Moving notice: On Thursday, October 13, 2011, Arlene (Altenburg) Hickey moved from her hometown of Stevens Point to be with her beloved husband, Glenn, in Heaven. Arlene had been residing in Omaha, NE / Council Bluffs, IA with her children, Anne, John and Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at St Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Interment will follow at St Mary's Cemetery in Custer. Visitation will at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, Stevens Point, on Monday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 6 p.m.; and again at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time for Mass.
The daughter of Worth and Anne Altenburg, Arlene was born on June 7, 1930 in Stevens Point. Arlene graduated from PJ Jacobs High School before earning her Bachelor of Education from the Wisconsin State Teachers College, now UW-SP. Arlene taught kindergarten in Wisconsin Rapids before her marriage to Glenn. Arlene's first job was working behind the soda fountain at her father's dairy. She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to basketball. Arlene was constantly writing letters to family and friends whom she met through her family moves from Steven Point to Marion, IN, to Sugar Creek, OH, to Stevens Point, to Mc Henry, IL, to Warsaw, IN, to Stevens Point. Arlene acquired many friends along her journey. Each of these individuals were dear to her heart.
A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Arlene leaves us to join her husband, Glenn; father and mother, Worth and Anne Altenburg.
She is survived by her children, Anne and David Gronseth, John and Deborah Hickey, and Bill and Dawn Hickey. Grandchildren, Jessica Ripley, Carol Ripley, Michael Ripley, Jennifer Hickey, Allison Pontious, Katherine Hickey, Lisa Hickey, Shelby Hickey and Paige Hickey. Great-Grandchildren, Elizabeth Chinowth, Emily Chinowth and Jackson Pontious. Brothers and sisters, Joan and Roy Laseski, Jim and Betsy Altenburg, Dave and Lynn Altenburg, Tom and Louis Altenburg, and Janet and Dave Charteier.
Survived by remaining family: Harold & Mary Hickey, Ethel & Al Liebe, Jim & Joan Hickey, Grace Dean, Edith Steffanus and many family and friends too numerous to list, but all are dear to our hearts forever.
