Wausau man dies in Walworth County crash


WALWORTH COUNTY (PRESS RELEASE) - On Sunday, October 16, 2011, approximately 3:45pm, Walworth County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash.  The two vehicles involved were a 2005 Peterbilt semi truck and a 1996 Buick Regal.  This crash occurred on Hwy 11 at Plank Road in the Town of Lafayette.  The passenger in the car died at the scene.

Preliminary investigation by the Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit revealed the following:  The Buick, being driven by Sophie M. Nelson, DOB 4-5-90, of Kenosha, WI, was westbound on Hwy 11 near Plank Road.  She crossed the centerline, entering the eastbound lane of Hwy 11.  The semi, also eastbound, was unable to avoid striking the Buick.  The Buick suffered severe damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. 

Nelson's passenger is identified as Matthew Bowden Kehl, DOB 10-13-86, of Wausau, WI. The Walworth County Coroner's Office pronounced Kehl dead at the scene.  Nelson was flown directly from the crash scene by Flight for Life.  Her status is unknown. Both subjects were wearing seatbelts.

 The driver of the semi is identified as John M Seybert III, DOB 7-16-60, of Bristol, WI.  He was driving for Mighty Grand Dairy, LLC, out of Union Grove, WI.  He did not suffer any injuries. 

This case is open and under investigation.
