Salvation Army sets Coats for Kids pre-registration for first time
WAUSAU (WAOW) - As the temperatures drop this time of year the need for food, clothing and warmth rises.
The Salvation Army wants to help meet those needs.
Captain Brian Goodwill of the Wausau branch says the food pantry is in more demand than a year ago.
So they're asking for donations as we head into the holiday season.
They're also collecting coats for kids, which will be handed out November 4th and 5th.
For the first time, they're asking people to come in early to pre-register.
Capt. Brian Goodwill/Salvation Army Wausau: "So we really wanted to make sure that everybody can come and get signed up. We wanted to make sure that we have all the information that we need and that we hopefully have enough coats to meet everybody's needs. And also to make it a little more streamlined that day of distribution so people don't have to wait around as long."
Goodwill says if someone shows up on a distribution day, the Salvation Army will work with that person to receive information and assign a time to come back.
The Salvation Army's warming center is also open during the day on Callon Street in Wausau.
Goodwill says overnight shelter has been near capacity the last several months.
