Ramada Hotel and Tilted Kilt Restaurant to close Sunday

STEVENS POINT (WAOW)--After decades of service in the Stevens Point community, the Ramada Hotel will shut its doors on Sunday. The Hotel's General Manager said tough economic conditions were a main factor in the decision and 104 people will lose their jobs.

The Tilted Kilted restaurant will also close on October 30th. In a statement, General Manager Tim Mueller said, "The decision to close the property was not made easily and follows many months of operational adjustments and ongoing funding to maintain operations in hopes of some market recovery. Given the state of the economy, it is not economically viable to continue with hotel operations."

Stevens Point Convention and Visitor's Bureau Executive Director Sara Brish said the hotel has been a landmark in the community since the 60s. But multiple factors including the economy and an increase in hotels and conference centers across the state could have impacted this decision.

Brish said the Visitor's Bureau is working with the hotel to find rooms and event locations for people who already had reservations.

The Hotel's General Manager said the doors will close at six o'clock Sunday evening.
