Remains of wanted Wood Co. man identified in Germantown


GERMANTOWN (WAOW) -- Police said the remains of a man wanted for assault in Wood County have been found in Germantown.

According to a press release from the Germantown Police Department, investigators found the remains of 58-year-old David Hopp in a wooded area along US 41 in Germantown during a criminal investigation. The cause of death is still unknown.

Authorities said Hopp was first reported missing on December 31, 2005. Police said his car and personal belongings were left at the home of his estranged wife, where he was visiting for the holidays.

Hopp was facing charges of attempted homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, stalking and reckless endangerment through the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Wood County Sheriff's Department. Now that Hopp's body has been identified, police said the cases against him have been closed.
