DOA releases weapons policy for state buildings

Most Wisconsin state employees will face few additional restrictions on carrying concealed weapons.

Gov. Scott Walker's administration released its policy on concealed weapons in state buildings Friday morning. The plan bans hidden weapons in portions of buildings where a discharge might cause a chemical reaction or explosion and prohibits workers from carrying if it interferes with their duties. But it imposes almost no other additional restrictions.

Walker signed a law in July making Wisconsin the 49th state to allow concealed weapons. State residents can start applying for permits on Tuesday. The law specifically bans weapons in a number of settings, including schools, police stations and court houses.
