Keith E. Wirrer, 86, Wausau, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Keith was born March 18, 1925 to the late Alfonso and Evelyn (Jesse) Wirrer in Mattoon. He married Lucille Jahnke on May 4, 1950 in Shawano.
Keith was drafted when he was a senior in High School. Traveling to Milwaukee he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He went to radio and radar school to get on a PT boat. However, he contacted rheumatic fever and could not finish school. Keith served his country honorably for three years during WWII. He and his wife owned and operated Wirrer's Red Owl for many years. Keith enjoyed all sports, especially fishing, playing basketball and softball.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; a son Joe Wirrer, Reedsburg; a daughter, Mar Dee (Martin) Zimmerman, Wausau; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wirrer, Tom Wirrer, Cindy Makel-Wirrer, and Melissa Nigbor; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Madison, Mason, Chase, Alexis, Tierra, Jacob and Ellia.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse, a great-grandson, Ayden and a brother, Richard.
There will be no services at this time.
