MADISON (Press Release) – UW-Stevens Point sophomore forward Kyle Heck has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week for his efforts on the ice for the Pointers last week.
Heck tallied three goals on Oct. 28, as he powered UW-Stevens Point past defending national champion and No. 1-ranked St. Norbert College. He struck at the 7:06 mark of the opening period and added another at the 14:08 mark to give the Pointers the early 2-0 edge. In the third, Heck completed his hat trick with another even strength goal with 1:26 remaining.
On the season, Heck leads the Pointers in goals (4) and points (4).
UW-Stevens Point (1-2-0, 1-1-0 NCHA) will host a pair of nonconference games at K.B. Willett Arena on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5 as Augsburg College and Gustavus Adolphus visit Stevens Point. Game time both evenings is set for 7 p.m.
Pointers junior Joey Clapp has been named the season's first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Swimmer of the Week.
Clapp, a native of Faribault, Minn., posted a pair of first-place finishes in competition against UW-Eau Claire and St. Cloud State (Minn.), out-distancing the field in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. He was also a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that posted a top finish on the day enroute to defeating UW-Eau Claire.
Clapp and the Pointers resume action in the pool on November 11-12 at the UWSP Aquatic Center as they host the annual Border Battle swim meet.
