UPDATE: Authorities: Arrested suspect related to at least 3 Wausau area crimes

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -

Everest Metro Police Captain Clayton Schulz reports that the man arrested for robbing Piggy's Pub is also responsible for at least two other area robberies, according to a press release.

Officers arrested Mariano Valera, 25, Wednesday afternoon.

So far Valera is connected with a robbery at Cliffhanger's Bar on October 3, another at Piggy's Pub on November 2 and an attempted robbery in the Wendy's parking lot in Rib Mountain on October 10.

Everest Metro Police say they are working the Marathon County Sheriff's Department and the Wausau Police Department to see if any other robberies in the Wausau area are related.

Valera is expected in court Friday, November 4.

Authorities have arrested a second suspect who they believe helped rob Piggy's Pub Tuesday morning. However they haven't named the suspect yet or said if the suspect is related to any other robberies.

The name of the Wausau man arrested in connection to three recent robberies in Marathon County is released.

Investigators say Mariano Valera, 25, was taken into custody late Wednesday during a traffic stop.

According to a detective with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department, because of the nature of this case, Valera will most like not make an initial court appearance Thursday in this case. He is in court on an unrelated matter.

A 25-year-old Wausau man is in custody in connection with three recent robberies in Marathon County.

The latest happened around midnight Tuesday night at Piggy's Pub near Rib Mountain.

Police say two masked men demanded money from the bartender. When the bartender opened the cash register, it reportedly set off an alarm that sent the robbers running.

Officers say the bar owner tried to stop one of the robbers by hitting him over the head with a bottle of wine. Marathon County Sheriff's Officers say the man arrested Wednesday was the one involved in that fight.

Police say the man arrested was also involved in two other recent robberies in Marathon County. Authorities are not releasing the man's name at this time.
