Wausau resident appointed to UW Board of Regents

MADISON (WAOW) - Gov. Scott Walker appointed Gerald Whitburn of Wausau as one of three new members of the UW Board of Regents.

Whitburn was the CEO of Church Mutual Insurance Company from 2001-2010.  He also held cabinet positions twice before in Wisconsin.  He was the Secretary of the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations from 1989-1991 and the Secretary of the Department of Health and Social Services from 1991-'95. 

In a press release, Gov. Walker says, "Gerry has been an advocate for Central Wisconsin residents for years in both the public and private sector," said Governor Walker. "The knowledge, experience, and education he brings to the Board as a UW system double degree holder will be an asset to the whole state." 

The UW System Board of Regents consists of 18 members.  According to the release, governor of Wisconsin appoints 14 citizen members and 2 student members to serve 7 year terms and 2 year terms, respectively.  Their appointments are subject to confirmation by the Wisconsin State Senate.
