Bill allowing development on Holtz Krause landfill passes legislature

UPDATE -  On September 12th, the Wausau City Council passed a resolution to use the Holtz Krause landfill as a soccer facility.

The agreement between the Holtz Krause Steering Committee and Marathon County means the complex is still on target for construction to begin in April of next year.

A bill allowing development on the old Holtz Krause landfill passed the legislature.

A clutch of local legislators helped craft the bill that would allow a recreational facility to be built on the old dump, along with several other sites, passed in both houses this week. Specifically, the bill expands the types of properties that are eligible for liability exemptions from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

A plan to develop the site on the south east side of Wausau into a 55 acre soccer complex has been kicked around for years. Once signed, development could begin as early as Spring 2012.
