MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -- Thousands are celebrating New Years this weekend, a tradition passed down by many generations of Hmong.
Organizers estimate around 3,000 members of the Hmong community and friends will unite in Weston to celebrate their new year holiday this weekend.
The holiday happens every year at the end of the fall harvest season.
The celebration includes traditional Hmong songs, dances and games.
Organizers said it's a time to reflect on their accomplishments from the past year and to prepare for the next.
"We have to celebrate for all Hmong people and Hmong population here," said Ben Her, 2012 New Year's Chairperson.
The celebration lasts into Sunday evening and public is invited to attend.
The event is being held at the Greenheck Fieldhouse in Weston.
