Czar begins research on deer management

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin's deer czar begins work this week when he meets with Department of Natural Resources and other state officials.

James Kroll, known to some as "Dr. Deer" has the hefty task of determining how to better manage Wisconsin's deer population.  Kroll has already been out and about Wisconsin, visiting hunting shops and talking to hunters.

Kroll says the main complaints from hunters are that the hunting season and regulations are too complex.

Also, hunters say communication with the DNR and environmental groups is poor and that public forest land is mismanaged.

Kroll plans to hold several town hall meetings around the state.
