Hoops for Hunger slated for Pointer Purple/Gold game
STEVENS POINT, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team, Ministry Point Sports Medicine Center and the Stevens Point Journal are teaming up for "Hoops for Hunger" as part of the annual Purple-Gold scrimmage game held Wednesday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
"This is a great way to start our season," said UWSP head coach Bob Semling. "We're proud to give back to the community and thank our fans for their generosity."
All donations stay local and will be given to the Stock the Shelves initiative coordinated by the Stevens Point Journal
Admission to the game is free, however fans are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or a cash donation in exchange for a chance to win prizes such as team apparel, team autographed basketballs and more.
Stevie Pointer will also be on hand from 5:30-7 p.m. for pictures with fans. For an additional donation, fans can receive a color photo print at the game. The Backcourt Club will be hosting a cookout from 5:30-7 p.m. indoors at the Quandt Fieldhouse with traditional tailgate fare being served. Meal tickets are $5.
