Update: 8-year-old boy hit by truck

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - We have more information on the death of an 8-year-old boy hit by a pickup truck in Wisconsin Rapids.

Police said on Friday afternoon the boy and his brother were attempting to cross the street at corner of West Grand and 14th Avenue.

A spokesperson for the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department said the driver was headed north in the right lane when he struck the child.

"I heard sirens, and I just seen a couple of little boys boots on the road and I thought 'Oh my gosh' something bad happened," said Linda Scholzen, a business owner in Wisconsin Rapids.

The driver told police that he did not see the 8-year-old boy and his brother crossing the street.

"Due to a truck being stopped on the left, it was impossible for him to see the children and at this point it's just a very unfortunate accident," said Sergeant Todd Snyder of the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department.

Police said the driver is from Appleton and was not cited for the accident.

At this time both the boy and driver's names are not being released.
