MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Two long-serving state senators are scheduled to speak at a Tuesday memorial service in the state Capitol Rotunda for venerable Statehouse journalist Dick Wheeler.
Republican Senate President Mike Ellis of Neenah and Democratic Sen. Fred Risser of Madison will speak at Wheeler's memorial. Ellis and Risser are the only two currently serving state lawmakers who have been in the Capitol longer than Wheeler, who came to Madison in 1972 and died suddenly Friday.
Ellis was elected in 1970 and Risser was first elected in 1956.
Wheeler's daughter Gwyn Guenther, who worked alongside her father on his website The Wheeler Report, also planned to speak.
Wheeler was remembered as an "institution within an institution" for his knowledge of state government and commitment to covering the news.
