Former Marshfield Clinic doctor sentenced to five years for sexual assault

WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -- A former Marshfield Clinic doctor has been sentenced to five years in prison. He was convicted of sexually assaulting four patients while they were sedated.

At Monday's sentencing, Kevin Lang publicly apologized to the victims.

"In your moment of greatest weakness and vulnerability, I took advantage of you," said Lang. "I was wrong and I am deeply sorrowful for this."

The Wood County judge Greg Potter sentenced Lang to five years behind bars and another ten under supervised release. The judge told Lang, doctors are supposed to take care of patients. Instead, he took advantage of them.

"What even made it worse is you did so when they were sedated with a drug which affected their ability to be aware or recall what took place," said Judge Potter. "That's almost similar to a date rape drug."

Lang pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and no contest to another two.

"Daily I regret my actions," said Lang. "Often I weep tears of remorse and repentance for injuring women who were my patients and I wish I could do something to make it right for them."

Authorities said Lang touched four of his patients inappropriately in various incidents between April 2005 and July 2007. Now, Lang said he feels true remorse.

"I should have known better. I should have had better control," said Lang. "Although I never intended to hurt anyone with my actions, I fear I've caused them harm."

"When people put their well-being in your hands and you violate that trust, some punishment has to be rendered," said Judge Potter.
