WAUSAU (WAOW)--The Camp Phillips road project in Weston is nearing an end. Project coordinators say if the weather cooperates, the road could open to traffic as early as Friday afternoon.
Work on the $5.3 million dollar project began in June. Weather delays put it about a month behind schedule. During the construction, motorists have had to use a detour on Schofield avenue to travel between Weston and Wausau's east side.
The project expands Camp Phillips to four lanes from Northwestern to Bernard avenues and includes a new bridge and bike or walking path.
