7 to stand trial in Madison shooting death

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Seven alleged gang members have been ordered to stand trial in a Madison shooting death.

Sixteen-year-old Devante James testified at a preliminary hearing Tuesday under an immunity deal, meaning it cannot be used against him at further proceedings.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/sRosU7) he's one of seven charged with being a party to first-degree intentional homicide for the Oct. 20 death of Jonathan Wilson.

James testified that most of them planned to go fight a group that chased and beat James' brother, Levante James, earlier that day. But he says the plan shifted and the group decided to bring guns, but he did not witness Wilson's shooting.

A hearing will be set to decide whether James will remain charged as an adult or be transferred to juvenile court.
