Hunters asked to be on watch for cougars

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Hunters head out to the woods for Wisconsin's nine day gun-deer hunt on Saturday. While they are out there, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources asks that they be on the lookout for cougars.

Trail cameras have recently snapped pictures of cougars.  Wildlife biologist verfied a photo take of one of the animals in Juneau County. What remains unclear is if there is one cougar or more, roaming the state.  The most recent photo taken of a cougar was near the Rusk-Taylor County line, November 8th. DNR biologists believe that  cougar may now be in Price County.

If you see a cougar while hunting, you are asked to report it to the DNR. If you have pictures, they would also like to see those. You can send pictures to the DNR website: the agency is also on Facebook and has a Twitter account.
