100s expected to rally in Milwaukee for equality

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Several groups that are demanding economic equality in the U.S. are planning a joint rally near downtown Milwaukee.

The demonstration Thursday afternoon will coincide with similar protests across the country. Groups including Wisconsin Jobs Now and MoveOn.org are planning to gather at a park and then march about half a mile to a bridge over Interstate 43.

Janet Veum (VEE'-um) is with Wisconsin Jobs Now. She says the bridge symbolizes the sort of infrastructure project that could help put people to work right away.

Peter Rickman is a 29-year-old law student at the University of Madison-Wisconsin. He has helped organize Wall Street protests in the past and plans to attend Thursday's rally. He says the protesters want family-supporting jobs, adequate health care for everyone and accessible public education.
