Billings to be sworn in Wis. Assembly on Saturday

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- Almost two weeks after winning a special election, Jill Billings will be sworn into the state Assembly.

The La Crosse County supervisor won a special election Nov. 8 over Republican David Drewes. She'll fill the seat vacated after fellow Democrat Jennifer Shilling won a state Senate seat in an August recall election.

A La Crosse Tribune report ( ) says Billings will be sworn in Saturday. Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley will preside at the public ceremony.

The 95th Assembly District seat covers the city of La Crosse and parts of the nearby towns of Campbell and Shelby.

Even with Billings' election win, Republicans still hold a 59-39 majority in the Assembly. There's one independent.
