Wis. DNR secretary bags her 1st deer

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The secretary of Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources has bagged her first deer -- and it took her only two hours on opening day.

DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp was hunting for her first time last Saturday. She tells Wisconsin Public Radio she figured she'd be happy just sitting in the solitude of the woods in Iowa County when a doe walked into her sights.

Stepp calls it "just really an amazing experience and quite an adrenaline rush."

Although Stepp had never hunted before, she says she recommends it highly. She also notes that more and more women are getting involved in deer hunting.

Stepp recommends hunters who do shoot a deer consider donating it to a food shelf.
