MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW)- Sunday was the final day for the gun-deer hunting season and some hunters in our area have had good luck this year
"The best one I've ever had was a 12 pointer," Adam Koss said.
Adam Koss has been hunting for more than a decade and this season he shot and killed a trophy buck
"All and all pretty good season, we all got bucks," he said.
But some hunters were not so lucky.
Julia Contreras and her son Tristan headed to the woods on the final day of the gun-deer season.
"We did not see or hear anything except a buck we flushed out here and the hunter across the way got a shot at that and got him down," said Julia Contreras.
"the tradition runs deeply throughout the state,"
A spokesperson from the Wisconsin DNR said hunting is a tradition that runs deeply throughout the state and turnout this year compares to last year.
"We were down maybe a less of a half percent, so what that means is we've had a lot of good participation. We know that on opening weekend we had well over 600,000 hunters in the woods participating so right there I think that's successful," said Kurt Thiede from the Wisconsin DNR.
Kurt Thiede said the number of deer's killed this year is up almost six percent.
So as the season comes ends, hunters like Adam Koss are already looking forward to next year.
"I've got to wait for another 360 before I get to shoot another one," Koss said.
