Board: Wis. soldiers can sign recall petitions

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin military personnel based outside the state can sign recall petitions when they're home for the holidays.

A spokesman for the state Government Accountability board says military personnel can sign if they're an eligible voter and list their last Wisconsin address on the petition. Under state law, no one can lose resident status in Wisconsin if they leave the state to serve their country.

Democrats and their allies angry with Republican Gov. Scott Walker and his contentious collective bargaining law have launched an effort to recall him. They need slightly more than 540,000 signatures by mid-January to force an election.
