UPDATE: Leaders in preliminary talks to develop Wausau medical school
WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Aspirus, College of Osteopathic Medicine and the city of Wausau are in preliminary discussions to explore putting a medical school in Wausau.
This would be Wisconsin's third medical school.
According to a press release from Aspirus, they hope the school could address a physician shortage. Duane Erwin, President and Chief Executive Officer for Aspirus. "The upside is great, though. A new medical school could help address a looming physician shortage, drive economic activity throughout the region, and increase access to excellent health care."

The City of Wausau plans to hold a press announcement with Aspirus Wednesday morning.
Few details are available but the Dean of the Wisconsin College of Osteopathic Medicine is also listed in the press release.
The announcement is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. in the Second Floor Boardroom of Wausau City Hall.
