La Crosse man pleads guilty in heroin death


LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A La Crosse man has pleaded guilty to a homicide charge in a heroin overdose death.

Twenty-four-year-old Ian Lutz faces 25 years in prison on the first-degree reckless homicide charge in the death of Garrett Hall. Police were called to a residence in October 2010 and found Hall passed out on the floor. He died later at Franciscan Skemp in La Crosse.

Hall's friends told officers he had left earlier in the evening to buy heroin from Lutz.

WKBT-TV ( ) reports five other charges against Lutz were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Lutz is scheduled for sentencing January 4.
