Second Republican lawsuit over redistricting filed

Republicans have filed a second lawsuit to require any recall elections for state legislators to be conducted in newly drawn districts, a move that would favor their party.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Waukesha County district court comes a week after the same plaintiffs asked the state Supreme Court to either appoint a three-judge panel to hear the case or take it up themselves.

Attorney Eric McLeod says the second case was filed to ensure proper procedures were being followed. The second lawsuit asks for a three-judge panel to be appointed.

Earlier this month a group of Democrats asked a panel of three federal judges to ensure that any recall elections use the old maps.

Democrats are trying to recall four Republican state senators. Senate Republicans hold a 17-16 majority.
