Snow through the morning, more this weekend

Today: Cloudy with light snow through midday. Up to an inch accumulation in spots.  High: 36.  Wind: North~10

Friday:  Mostly sunny and seasonal.   High: 31.  Wind: SW~5 becoming south ~10

As we change months from November to December and the seasons from Fall to Winter, mother nature is keeping up appearances. Look for some light snow today and some colder weather ahead.

The snowfall for today will be mainly during the morning hours and it could add up to an inch in a few spots. The cold front moving through our area and producing the snow will keep temps from rising much above this mornings lows. I expect temps to remain fairly steady in the low to mid 30s. The skies will clear tonight leading to lows in the teens and mostly sunny skies tomorrow will keep temps in the seasonal range. Highs should top out in the low 30s on Friday.

Over the weekend is when we could see a bit more trouble on the roadways as another storm system will develop over the Midwest. It is not a strong storm system but since it is arriving from the southwest, it will have a bit more Gulf of Mexico moisture with it and this could lead to our heaviest accumulation of snow since early November. As of now it looks like the highest chance of snow will be in the afternoon on Saturday and continue through early Sunday morning. My very preliminary estimate of snow amounts is in the 3 to 6 inch range. The snow might mix with sleet and rain south of Marathon county as high temps should reach the mid 30s.

After the storm system moves through, it looks like colder weather developing for a few days. If we have a few inches of snow on the ground, it will make it even more likely that temps will be a bit below normal. High temps will be in the upper 20s on Sunday, then linger in the mid 20s on Monday and Tuesday, before rising into the middle and upper 20s Wednesday and Thursday. Even though it will be cold, not much snow is expected early next week. Right now I am forecasting a 50% chance of snow showers on Monday but there should be less than an inch of accumulation.

Have a pleasant Thursday! Meteorologist Justin Loew, 4:20am, 1-December-2011
