Stephen A. 'Yogi' Baker, 76, Mattoon, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1935 in Mattoon, the son of the late Ralph and Polly (Rew) Baker. Stephen was a US Army Veteran. He was a professional truck driver and was employed by Valley Express, Foreway and Foreway Express, retiring in 1985. He was also a bus driver for the Wausau and Antigo School Districts for many years. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and being 'Grandpa Yogi' to his grandchildren. Stephen had a special place in his heart for pets. Not only his own pets but everyone's pets and they all loved him too.
Survivors include his children; Stephen Andrew Baker, Jr., Reedsburg, Lynnette (Dale) Koeller, Wausau, Kirk Daniel Baker Sr., Mattoon and Patrick Eugene Baker, Minocqua, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, siblings; Cora Hilbrand and Eunice Ludke, both of Green Bay and Leonard (Kathryn) Baker, Mattoon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul.
The funeral service will be held at 3pm, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Church of the Nazarene, Mattoon. Rev. Mark Quinn will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, town of Hutchins, Shawano County with military rites conducted by the Mattoon American Legion. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:30 pm until the time of service at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
