Margaret "Mickey" Bukowski, 88 of Stevens Point died Thursday December 1, 2011 at Harmony Living Center in Stevens Point. Margaret was born Oct. 13, 1923 in the Town of Hull, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Retza) Bonowski. She attended St. Casimir Catholic School and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy of Stevens Point in 1942. It was there she was given her nickname "Mickey" (after Mickey Rooney) because of her sense of humor and antics. The name Mickey stayed with her throughout her working career. Mickey belonged to the drum and bugle corp. and also played guitar, accordion, harmonica and liked to sing. She sang for many years in the St. Casimir church choir while her dad Joseph Bonowski played the organ. She married Sylvester Bukowski on May 6, 1944 at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. She went to live in Milwaukee with her sister Gertrude while her husband completed his tour of duty during WWII. While there, she worked in a glove factory. Upon her husbands discharge she moved back to the Town of Hull where she worked out of her home using her typing skills. Once her two boys were of High School age using her typing skills she got a job with Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. which later became Sentry Insurance from which she retired from
In 1986. Mickey was noted for and took great pride in a huge flower garden.
Survivors include her son Jerry (Sally) Bukowski of Stevens Point, three grandchildren Jeremy (Jennifer) Bukowski, Marcy (Eric) Stenstrom and Becky Bukowski. Three great grandchildren Ada, Naomi & William Stenstrom. One sister Marion (Alexander) Kaminski of Vermont. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sylvester in 2007, one son Larry in 2008, two brothers, one sister, two step brothers & and four step sisters.
Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Rev. Arul Joseph V. officiating. Burial in the Parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM Saturday until the time of services.
