Edmund Peter Writz Sr., 77, Elderon died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Aspirus Hospital under Hospice Care after an ongoing battle with Alzheimers.
He was born March 16, 1934 in the Town of Reitbrock, WI, the son of the late Vincent and Catherine (Feltzowski) Writz. He was united in marriage to Darleen Stencil on October 26, 1957 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Wausau. She survives.
After school Ed entered the military as a Marine and served in the Korean War. He farmed, was a construction worker for Ironworkers Local #383, and established his own business selling and servicing Polaris snowmobiles and ATV's. Ed made is home in the Town of Elderon where he later served as Chairman for six years. Ed's many hobbies included snowmobiling, horseback riding, pontoon rides, fishing, enjoying his pond and many pets, especially his dog and protector Jo Jo. He was a member of the Elderon Veteran of Foreign Wars Post, the Elderon Boot and Saddle Club and the Elderon SnowAngels Snowmobile Club. Ed was hardworking and rarely rested, but enjoyed time with family and friends, especially on "polka music" Sundays. He had a sweet tooth, including ice cream for breakfast and enjoyed all of the special cookies Darleen made for him.
Survivors, besides his wife Darleen, include five children, Edmund (Diane) Writz Jr., Mattoon, Wendy (Ray) Severson,Elderon, Laurie (Steve) Gunderson, Cooksville TN, Carrie (Steve) Luedtke, Weston and Brian (Robyn) Writz, New Braunfels, TX. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren; Jason Writz, Ashley Writz, Nicholas (Melanie) Severson, Matthew Severson, Mitchel Gunderson, Stephanie (Joe) Lemasters, Marcus Gunderson, Alicia Luedtke, Sean Luedtke, Logan Writz and Brady Writz and five great-grandchildren; Blayne, Zander and Alivia Severson, Elise Lemasters (and brother on the way) and Ethan Gunderson. Ed is survived by four sisters; Agnes (the late LeRoy) Heil, Marathon, Irene (Rudolph) Stieber, Marathon, Julia (Earl) Braun, Rhinelander, and Lucille (Norbert) Rauen, Weston and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Catherine Writz, a brother, Alois Writz, a sister Delores (Arthur) Cihlar, and special cousin Edward Writz.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Holy Family-St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg. Fr. Patrick Lloyd will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Elderon with military rites conducted by the Elderon Memorial Post #8068 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
