MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin consumer protection officials are warning football fans to watch out for Rose Bowl scams.
The Wisconsin Badgers defeated Michigan State in the Big Ten Conference championship game to earn another trip to Pasadena. The Badgers will face Oregon on Jan. 2.
State officials say buying tickets from classified ads or online increases the chances the tickets could be fake. Fans should purchase tickets from sources the University of Wisconsin-Madison or the National Association of Ticket Brokers have endorsed.
People should ask ticket sellers to email or fax a copy of the tickets so the date, time, location and seat location can be confirmed.
Paying by credit card offers the most protection for consumers, but fans should never give out their numbers unless they have initiated the contact.
