DOT:Fewer Americans die in car crashes

(CNN)--Fewer Americans are dying in car accidents.

That's coming from new numbers released by the Department of Transportation . The government agency says nearly 33-thousand people died on our nation's roadways last year.

And while the number of deaths is still high... it's the lowest it's been since 1949.

The D-O-T- says the drop comes despite the fact that Americans drove more in 2010 than they did the year before. But the report did show a slight increase in the number of people hurt in traffic accidents last year.
