Bill would ban guns from Wisconsin gas stations

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee lawmaker is proposing to make gas stations off limits to Wisconsin residents carrying concealed weapons, even if they have a permit.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Josh Zepnick, tells the Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/sk9dQz) that many station owners, employees and customers are among his constituents and have been victims of violent crime.

The Democrat says he's attended the funerals of two gas station workers killed while on the job, but he says he knows passing the bill is a long shot in the Republican-controlled Legislature.

Nik Clark, chairman of Wisconsin Carry, predicts the bill has absolutely no chance of passage in Wisconsin, and that the trend nationally is to expand where those with permits can legally carry guns.
