Jail inmate children to get holiday gifts

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Wausau area church congregations join forces to bring Christmas to area children who have a parent incarcerated in the Marathon County jail. The program is run through Greater Wausau Christian Services.

Volunteer shoppers walked through the store aisles at Target in Weston making purchases for 38 children, who qualified for the project this year. The shoppers only know the age, sex and what the child hopes for this holiday season.

Sally Scinto-Reinertson who works with inmates through GWCS, says the project is something the volunteers look forward to each season: "You can see it in their eyes, finding a gift for a child who is missing something this holiday is special, for these children, they are missing a parent."

Volunteer shopper, Judi McGill, says: "Many of these children would not have Christmas, if not for the items we give and pick out."

If you are interested in helping with the project next year, you can contact GWCS at 715-842-5635 or gwcs@dwave.net
