RHINELANDER (WAOW) -- A special bow hunting season began in Rhinelander on Monday and local officials already started authorizing permits for deer hunters on certain properties within the city limits.
After taking last year off, hunters can head back to their tree stands for a season lasting through the end of January.
"We do the deer hunt to get rid of the excess deer population in the city," said city deputy clerk-treasurer Valerie Foley. "There was at one time way too many deer and they were eating everybody's flowers and shrubs and everything so we had to do something to bring that down a little bit."
Property owners who want to allow hunters on their land need to register with the city.
