President and First Lady address troops

(ABC) -

The Iraqi war is coming to an end after nearly a decade.

President Barack Obama visited with some of the one million troops who served in that conflict.

Like so many of his fellow soldiers, James Courter joined the army after 9-11, hoping to fight in Afghanistan.

Instead he did four tours in Iraq, a country he just left for the final time.

Sergeant James Courter says, "That was it. It was an indescribable feeling knowing you have been here so much, all the cost of what we have done here, it's finished."

As U.S. Forces continue to leave Iraq, all will be out by the end of this month.

President Obama and the First Lady paid tribute to them today at Fort Bragg.

During the nearly 10 year war, the U.S. lost more than 4,400 troops.

And by the end of the year, the total price tag will exceed $712 billion.
