Athlete of the Week: Edgar's Caden Untiedt

Edgar's Caden Untiedt is one of the Marawood Conference's leading scorers.

The Wildcat junior averages 18 points a game. He started off the season even hotter, scoring 24 points a game in Edgar's first three matches.

"When I come down, I feel it, I got a hot hand.  When I feel it, I try to shoot, and hopefully it goes in," Untiedt said.

His scoring has accounted for 43 percent of the Wildcats' points this season.
"I like to attack the basket and draw some fouls and get to the free throw line, or get some easy baskets underneath," Untiedt said.  "And that kind of opens it up to get some open baskets outside."

Caden has been opening it up lately for his teammates.

When he's accounting for so much of his squad's scoring, he'll command extra attention.
"He's going to get double teamed," said Edgar coach Jim Heidmann.  "If I was an opponent, I would double team him too.  Because he's that good, if you're one on one, he can score.

"Teams know who he is, they know he's our scorer.  He's going to draw a lot of attention, he knows that, but he's ready for that."

Caden sees it as a challenge, and also a complement.

"I'd rather they play one guy on me, that'd be easier for me, I guess they are saying that I'm one of the better players on the court," he said.

He's going to be taking on another role as well.

Edgar doesn't have any seniors on this year's squad.  Caden will not only be counted to lead the team in scoring, but lead the team as well.
