Rousseff meet French PM, no hints on jet

BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) -- Brazil's president says that cooperation on defense is a pillar of her nation's relationship with France.

Those words came after President Dilma Rousseff met with French Prime Minister Francois Fillon in Brasilia.

But Rousseff offered no hints about whether a French company will win a $5 billion bid to build fighter jets for Brazil.

France's Rafale fighter jet is competing against the F-18 from Boeing and Sweden's Gripen NG.

Earlier this month, French officials warned that production of the Rafale may be halted if no foreign buyer for it is found.

It's expected Brazil will make a decision on the jet purchase in 2012.
