Wausau West Wins Fifth Straight Marathon Cup

Wausau West meets Wausau East in the final of the Marathon Cup Hockey Tournament.
The Warriors are defending state champs, ranked in the top five in Wisconsin and have won the last four Cups.

A tall task for the Lumberjacks tonight as they face their crosstown rivals.  Great start for the Warriors.  Dan Schlais assists Tanner Gould for the first West goal.  And the Warriors would score the second as well. Kyle Lee looked like a one man army, slicing through three defenders before putting the puck in the net.

The Lumberjacks would respond.   Henry Nuckles sent the puck to the goal, and Zach Comfort redirects it for East's only goal of the night.  West wins 5-1.

In the Marathon Cup consolation game, DC Everest took on Mosinee.  Everest is up 2-1 in the third period when Bryce Hladovcak sliced through the Evergreen defense to tie it up at 2-2.

But then Everest went on a run.   Brandon Dively cleaned up a rebound, and then a few minutes later, Eli Jasurda wristed a shot through to push the lead to 4-2.

Before the final buzzer sounded, Alex Yde fired one in to make the final score 5-2.
