Kim Jong Il's death means uncertainty for North Korea

WAUSAU (WAOW)--  UW Marathon County history professor Jeff Leigh told Newsline 9 the ramifications of the death of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il will continue to unfold over time.

That's because his death creates a lot of uncertainty for North Korea and a government shrouded in secrecy.

All information provided to citizens comes from state controlled television. Information about the government and its leaders is kept hidden, so its hard to say how the country's policies will be affected by Kim Jong Il's death.

"All true information is hidden. You get myth, you get cult of personality, you get outright fabrication. That's designed to keep the people off balance, that's designed to keep us off balance," said Leigh.

He added that there is some hope a new leader will make the country more open, but even the inner workings of the country's power structure are closely guarded.
