Europeans seek privacy changes from Facebook

BERLIN (AP) -- European authorities are insisting that Facebook Inc. improve transparency for users and some of its privacy policies within the next six months to comply with regional data privacy laws.

Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner on Wednesday presented the results of a three-month long audit of the social media network's international headquarters, based in Dublin.

The commissioner found Facebook to be overall committed to data privacy, but recommended several areas where it could improve. These included improving transparency on how users' personal data may be held and making it easier for such data to be deleted.

Facebook said it would review its policies over the next six months and that proposed changes could be incorporated into its global systems.
