Rings donated in Antigo Red Kettle

The sound of the bell ringers are familiar in the days leading up to Christmas. But what was found in the red kettle outside the Antigo Walmart was a bit unusual.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing Coordinator, Bill Kelly says,:"I was getting ready to take the money to the bank and I found 2 gold rings. An engagement and a wedding ring. Someone anonymously put them in the bucket."

We may never know who donated the rings or why, but we do know what will happen to them.  Kelly says a jeweler appraised  the rings at about $150. He plans to sell them and the money will go directly to the Salvation Army.

While the ring donation is unusual,  he adds that there have been others:"Once a woman came up and anonymously gave me $1000, cash. The people here are very generous. In the last three years, Langlade County has lead per capita donations in the state. That's considerable when you consider we have 21,000 people and we raise $60,000. That's pretty good!"

Bell ringers will continue their mission in hopes of raising $64,000 in Langlade County. Kelly says they are well on their way:"It is gratifying to see how people give.. it gives you a good feeling."
