Governor has hard time living up to jobs pledge

Little progress has been made on Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's promise to create 250,000 jobs over four years.

Now the pledge touted during last year's campaign could become a significant hurdle as the Republican faces a potential recall election next year.

Walker spoke frequently about his promise after taking office, but distanced himself in recent months. He now talks more about building a better environment to create jobs and how Wisconsin's future is tied to a national economy beyond his control.

Government data show about 16,300 private sector jobs have been created this year in Wisconsin. But the state has lost jobs for five months and Walker opponents say he'll be held accountable.

Walker was targeted for recall after stripping most public workers of nearly all their collective bargaining rights.
